Garmin Forerunner 610 – How to Navigate

Last updated: August 1, 2026. This is legacy Garmin tutorial content. Device menus, Garmin software and support paths can change, so verify the current Garmin support page for your exact model before updating firmware or changing navigation settings.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to navigate waypoints using your garmin forerunner 610.

there are 2 types of navigation: free form & backtrack.

free form is where you create waypoints, either parking spots, trailsheads or other points of interest. you can navigate back to that point at any time.

The other type is backtrack, this is where you are running an out & back an want to make sure you are on course. You get turn alerts, but remember that the navigation is a straight line from point A to B.

To access the navigation part, simply tap on your screen: where to?

from there, if you want to save a waypoint, tap : where am I? this will save your current location. If you are geocaching, use this method to them edit the coordinates.

waypoints are sorted nearest first and by default will name the waypoint by the current time.
