Garrison Brewing – St Peter’s Belgian Strong

Here we are in the woods again, trying out the 2013 Garrison Brew-Off homebrewer competition. Peter Welton won the Belgian Strong Ale, and we see a production run a year later.

While at the brewery, I spoke to the brewmaster Daniel and he suggested that I compared the beer with the Tripel Karmeliet. Not because they tasted the same (they don’t) but where the experience took you.

Lo and Behold, these two beers react the same way! Nice sweet start, carbonization – yeast – bread in the middle and a sudden finish at the end.

But expect St. Peter Belgian strong to be darker, a little more due to the candy sugar. A faint hint of the yeast, banana you find in Belgian beer, but at 7.5% ABA – packs a punch.
