Nice big 8km hike along a wilderness trail, just minutes outside of Halifax. Decided to attempted the smallest hiking loop in the Bluffs, called Pot Lake loop. We parked the car at the closest parking lot and walked about 400m to the actual trailhead. We followed the BLT trail where you can either continue to Hubley or downtown Halifax.
Cape Chignecto Provincial Park
Cape Chignecto is a 4,200-hectare natural environment park on a dramatic coastal peninsula. The park features 29 kilometres (18 miles) of pristine coastline, some of Nova Scotia’s most significant geological features, deep valleys, sheltered coves, rare plants, remnant old growth forest, scenic views, and a rich cultural heritage. We offer wilderness camping in secluded coves and ravines, while a spectacular coastal hiking trail leads visitors along high cliffs and deep valleys. Because Cape Chignecto is a wilderness hiking park, there are no drive-up camping sites.
Quick stop at Cape d’Or lighthouse & Restaurant. This was a manned lighthouse until it was automatized in the 1980’s. Today, the light keeper’s house is now a restaurant and guest house.
Samuel de Champlain visited the Bay of Fundy in 1604 and legend has it that he named this area of cliffs Cap D’Or because the copper reminded him of gold. However, the copper was known to the local Mi’kmaq far before that time. I have heard that artifacts have been found, but have not seen any myself.

We decided to take a quick hike within Long Lake provincial park. It is used mainly by the locals as an off-leash dog park, with with outdoor activities located within it.
The mountain near Lake Major was named after a tragic event in 1842 where two girls wandered off and died of exposure.
These little girls came to be known as the “Babes in the Woods,” and were buried at the cemetery at the Woodlawn United Church as they were found, laid together in one coffin.
This hike is about 5km round trip and is moderate difficulty based on time of year. A geocache is nearby. This tracks is not an official trail but has been in usage for a number of years. You will need to park by the side of the road and wade underneath power lines until you get to the trailhead. Good boots is recommended.
Quick hike with fellow you tuber dragonflyhiker along the trail in Parrsboro Nova Scotia. We grabbed a quick bite to eat at Bare Bones Bistro in Parrsboro and drove out the 3km to the Ottawa House Museum. From there there are a few parking lots, to park and start to walk to the Island. The area is known for rock hounds, so time your visit at low tide.
In this video, we join in a guided historical hike along Rogers Hill trail. This 8km segment is part of the Cape to Cape Footpath, where the trail will run from Cape Chignecto to Cape George, across mainland Nova Scotia.
Nice medium hike along the Spry Bay trail at taylors head provincial beach, just 30 min further up the show past clam harbour provincial beach.
cell phone reception is good for bell & telus. trails range from beach to backcountry footpath. Although ok for young children & pets, I would recommend leaving them home as the coastline is unspoiled. Access to the trails is available during most of the year. During winter, the gates might be close where you will only have the 9.5km trail available.
