PEI Brewing – 8 Cord DIPA

Trying out this 1st beer above 6.5% ABV in Prince Edward Island. PEI had this crazy rule that local breweries and distilleries could not make high alcohol beverages, but yet restaurants could IMPORT AS THEY PLEASED.

So local PEI BREWING COMPANY released this Double IPA. 8.5% ABV before Christmas 2014 and is only available on the island for now. You may be able to find it on tap at Bar Stillwell in Halifax.

Appearance: Nice light amber with orange tint to it. Familiar to DIPA. Nice white soapy head.

Aroma: Nice citrus & pine, I’m getting more pine.

Flavour: Sharp hop bitterness that is persistent throughout the taste. Malt sweetness at the end to balance this out, but there is a bite. It doesn’t pucker up your mouth, gives you a nice drinking beer.

Mouthfeel: Moderate mouthfeel, not overly carbonated. smooth finish (I did drink this at cooler temps). Moderate dryness.

Overall: I think this fits in with the other DIAP in the area like Garrison Imperial IPA or Boxing Rock Vicars Cross.
