Garmin inReach MapShare vs ZOLEO Location Share+

Last reviewed: July 14, 2026. Tracking and location-sharing features depend on plan, app, device model and current service terms.

Garmin MapShare-style sharing and ZOLEO Location Share+ both help people follow your trip, but they are not identical. The right choice depends on whether you want Garmin ecosystem tracking or a ZOLEO contact-centred breadcrumb trail.

Garmin inReach MapShare

Garmin inReach users commonly use Garmin sharing tools to let selected contacts view progress, depending on device and service setup. This makes the most sense when you already use Garmin Explore, Garmin Messenger or other Garmin trip-planning tools.

ZOLEO Location Share+

ZOLEO’s Canadian plans page describes Location Share+ as an optional add-on that includes unlimited location share messages and lets you share your location and breadcrumb trail with up to five check-in contacts on a user-selected interval.

Which One To Choose

  • Use Garmin if your routes, tracks and contacts already live in Garmin’s ecosystem.
  • Use ZOLEO if your trip communication is built around ZOLEO check-in contacts and app messaging.
  • Use either only after testing the map link and message flow with your real contacts.

Bottom Line

Tracking is most useful when the person at home knows what they are looking at. Send the link before the trip, explain what a delayed track point means and set expectations around check-in timing.

Current Details To Verify Before Buying

Subscription plans, SOS handling, app behaviour and device availability can change. Before buying or activating a device, check Garmin’s current inReach consumer plans, Garmin’s current satellite communicator page and ZOLEO’s Canadian monthly plans.
